Included with all Biz server subscriptions are automatic, nightly offsite backup of company data to our storage facility in downtown Calgary. This service is crucial in ensuring the safety of your business data in case of accidental deletion, file corruption, theft, fire or other unforeseen disaster. By default, we keep a copy of the last 30 days of your data.
- Each Biz Server includes a varying amount of offsite storage:
- BizStandard = 5GB
- BizPro = 15GB
- BizPlatinum = 25GB
- You can see how your offsite storage is being used by viewing your Backup Report, which helps identify files you may want to remove from backups (MP3, videos, etc.)
- ALL files are stored on the server are backed up. It is your responsibility to communicate your company data policies to employees and tell them not to store jokes, music, videos or other non-business related data on the server.
- If you surpass the amount of storage included with your plan, an additional fee is applied.
Description of the backup process
- Initially, a full copy of all your company data is copied offsite (which can take a long time, depending on the amount of data), thereafter only the files that have been changed (also called an incremental backup) since the last backup are transmitted to minimize the bandwidth & offsite storage space used.
- A copy of your backups are also stored on the server, disk space permitting. This enables quick, self-serve file restore when needed.
- All the files that are stored on the server (X:, Y:, Z: and all user P: drives) are backed up each night.
- If your server hosts mail (Groupware), all mailboxes are automatically backed up.
- Local web sites are backed up.
- Local FTP sites are not backed up (config only, no data)
- You can exclude files from backup by storing them in \\server\notbackedup.
- Backups are stored offsite for 30 days - any file can be restored to exactly how it was on a particular day from the last 30 days.
